Is Amazon Web Services a good fit for your needs?

When deciding upon a data center and cloud solution, should Amazon Web Services (AWS) be part of your service mix?  That answer depends on a number of factors, including the resources of your organization, the technology talent available to you, and the specific applications that are most important to your business.

These are some of the issues discussed by IT infrastructure expert Cris Daniluk of Rhythmic Technologies, who frequently uses AWS in the managed cloud and hybrid cloud/data center solutions for his company’s customers.  Despite his use of AWS, he is critical of many aspects of the web services giant’s service, as experience has provided Cris with the perspective that AWS frequently doesn’t provide the scalability, flexibility, and economics needed by many organizations to achieve their business goals.

There’s good insight here and an honest appraisal from a user of AWS, and a bonus is the story about how Cris quit his job with $3,000 in the bank to start a company that has grown into a 7-figure business, which is a nice success story to hear.
